Phantom Jam
Why your business slows down when nothing is broken.
You already know the feeling.
Four lanes. All of them moving. None of them moving properly. No smoke, no flashing lights, nobody on the shoulder with the bonnet up. You inch forward for forty minutes, and when you finally reach the front there is nothing there. Nothing to point at. Nothing to blame.
Your business has the same shape, and you have probably stopped mentioning it.
Everything is running. Nobody has quit. The clients are decent, the work is decent, the phone still rings. You have more capability than you had two years ago and you are moving more slowly than you were. When someone asks how business is, you say busy, and it is true, and it explains nothing.
So you look where the slowness is showing. The front. Leads, offer, pricing, website. You look hard and you look honestly, and by now you already know what is waiting for you there.
Nothing is broken. The lane is open.
This is a short book about the jam with no cause, and why widening the road at the front has never once fixed it.
What is in it
Fourteen short chapters. No hype and no urgency. It leaves you with one question, and it is a narrower and less comfortable question than what should I do:
Where is my narrowest section, and what is it costing me a month?
If you can already answer that from data, not from a hunch, not from a benchmark, not from what your accountant thinks, then you do not need this book and you never did. Go and widen it.
If you cannot, you might find that everything you spend before you can is a lane, somewhere upstream, dug at full price.
That is not a reason to panic and it is not a reason to buy anything today. It is a reason to stop guessing, which costs nothing, and which you could start this afternoon.
